Sabrina Carpenter in controversy over Coachella jab

Sabrina Carpenter’s fans have threatened to “cancel” her after she made a seemingly insulting comment during her opening Coachella set.

On Friday, April 10, Sabrina headlined Coachella‘s first day of its 2026 event, with the musician wowing fans with renditions of her catchy hits, such as House Tour, Taste, and Tears.

During her opening night, the 26-year-old made her highly anticipated Coachella headlining debut, transforming the stage into “Sabrinawood” for her performance, complete with a set design featuring her name styled after California’s legendary Hollywood sign. However, there was one moment during her performance that left a bitter taste in fans’ mouths.

During her show, Sabrina appeared to shut down a fan who was cheering while she performed, with it seeming to throw the singer off mid-song.

In the moment, Sabrina said, “I think I heard someone yodel,” before looking at the concertgoer, and asking, “Is that what you’re doing?”

Following the concertgoer’s response, Sabrina confessed, “I don’t like it.” And when the fan tried to clarify, explaining that what they were doing was a “part of their culture,” the 26-year-old asked, “That’s your culture, yodeling? Is this Burning Man [festival] what’s going on? This is weird” before moving forward with her performance.

However, the Espresso songstress faced severe backlash online as fans and critics alike took aim at her for supposedly being culturally insensitive.

Taking to X, numerous people called for Sabrina to be “cancelled” as one person wrote, “They finna cancel Sabrina for her saying she don’t like that yodeling s–t I’m already knowing.”

However, others pointed out that the cheer was not a yodel, but an Arabic ululation, as an X user fumed, “Sabrina Carpenter is so ignorant, someone was doing a zaghroot (an arab cheer), and she called it yodelling and disrespectfully dismissed the fact that it was apart of the person’s culture saying ‘she doesn’t like it.'”

A third person echoed the same sentiments, as they also said, “Sabrina Carpenter mocking a zaghrouta as ‘yodeling’ after being educated on its culture is so nasty. Being uncultured and proud is actually a disease. The mean girl act isn’t cute anymore; it’s just xenophobic. She’s done.”

“Sabrina saying yodeling culture is weird after a fan explained that it’s part of their culture is she dumb??? She’s such a loser,” noted a fourth, while a fifth X user concluded, “I’m really surprised after the fan said it was her culture, she still said it was weird. I cringed. Love my girl, but hello ?? I immediately knew it was gonna become a thing. I feel like she should have reacted better.”
