Sienna Miller thought she was simply taking a walk through Central Park. Instead, she found herself facing a question that would change the course of her life — at precisely the moment she felt least prepared for it.
The 44-year-old actress has revealed the hilariously unglamorous reality behind her engagement to Oli Green, 29, recalling how she reacted when she suddenly realised her partner was about to propose.
It was May, shortly after the couple had welcomed their second child together. Miller described herself as being in what she jokingly called her “full postpartum beauty” phase — greasy hair, a stained T-shirt and none of the polished glamour associated with a Hollywood proposal.
But something about Green’s behaviour began to give the game away.
During their walk, he became unusually quiet and visibly nervous. Miller sensed that something was happening, and as the pieces fell into place, her reaction was reportedly less romantic movie heroine and more exhausted new mother.
“Please, God, not now,” she joked, remembering the moment.
The unexpected proposal came just one day after Miller had appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 14. At the time, there was apparently no public indication that an engagement was imminent.
The couple kept the news relatively quiet until June, when Miller was photographed in Barcelona wearing an engagement ring, effectively confirming what had happened in Central Park.
Their relationship itself has had an unusual timeline. Miller and Green were first linked romantically in 2022, although the pair had reportedly crossed paths years earlier at a Halloween party. They eventually reconnected at another Halloween gathering and began a relationship that, according to Miller, became more serious than she had initially anticipated.
Family life followed quickly.
The couple welcomed their first child together in late 2023 and their second earlier this year. Miller is also mother to 13-year-old daughter Marlowe, whom she shares with former partner Tom Sturridge.
For Miller, the proposal story is perhaps fittingly intimate rather than picture-perfect: no elaborate Hollywood spectacle, no carefully staged red carpet moment — just a walk, a nervous fiancé and an actress who happened to be wearing a stained T-shirt.
And now, alongside a growing family, Miller is preparing for another chapter professionally. Her new legal drama series War is scheduled to premiere on HBO and Max on October 1.
